Who can apply

No minimum pay-in. The £17 fee is taken every month even if you do not use the benefits.

What else you get

1% cashback on eligible household bills paid by Direct Debit (capped £10 a month) plus 1% on eligible UK supermarket and travel debit-card spend (capped £10 a month) — up to £20 cashback against a £17 fee — plus worldwide family travel insurance, UK & European breakdown cover, worldwide family phone insurance and a 24/7 virtual GP.

  • £10/month cap on bill cashback and a separate £10/month cap on supermarket/travel card cashback — £20/month combined. Insurance has age limits (cover ends at 75) and upgrade charges for pre-existing conditions. One Edge Explorer account per person, sole or joint.
  • Worldwide family travel insurance (Chubb, winter sports included, Cuba excluded).
  • UK & European breakdown cover (Allianz Assistance).
  • Worldwide family mobile phone insurance (Aviva / Likewize, up to four claims a year).
  • 24/7 virtual GP in the UK (Teladoc via Chubb).
  • Access to Edge Saver (bonus rate on the first £4,000 for 12 months — check the live saver rate).
  • UK residents aged 18–73. Joint holders must live at the same UK address and pay one £17 fee. Cover for the account holder and eligible family ends at 75. Distinct from the cheaper Santander Edge current account (£3/month, no insurance package).

Our Expert Opinion on Santander Edge Explorer Debit Card

The Edge Explorer is best suited to someone who wants fee-free travel spending and a bundle of insurance perks alongside cashback. On the Mastercard rate abroad, it sits practically nothing off the real exchange rate, which matches the best cards we have measured. The 1% cashback earns 0.26% above the typical reward card, but the £17 per month fee means cashback alone will never cover the cost, so the value really depends on how much you use the travel, phone and breakdown cover.
