Worth Weighing Up

  • Con: £15 a month with a 3-month minimum, added to your card balance.
  • Con: Cashback alone needs about £1,500 a month on groceries (or £3,000 on other spend) to cover the fee.
  • Con: Unpaid cashback is lost if you close the card, and the investing fee returns when you leave.

Our Expert Opinion on Monzo Aura Credit Card

Jonny PeaseCo-Founder, DepositScout

The Monzo Aura Credit Card suits someone who already lives in the Monzo ecosystem and wants a bundle of perks alongside their spending, rather than a pure cashback card. I like the fee-free Mastercard spending abroad, which sits about 0.3% off the real exchange rate, and the lounge access and Apple TV add genuine value if you use them. The catch is the £15 a month fee with a 3-month minimum, and the cashback itself earns less than the typical reward card, which we measure at 0.73%, so the maths only works if you spend heavily enough to justify it.
