How you earn

Budgeting and credit tools plus unlimited fee-free UK and EEA cash withdrawals — no cashback, insurance or lifestyle perks.

  • No minimum term. Up to 5 virtual cards live at once (9 created per 30 days). Billsback is a monthly random draw, not a guaranteed rebate (up to £150 per bill, over £1, from the agreed provider list). Saving Challenge caps at £2,671 a year.
  • UK residents 18+. No upper age cap. Distinct from the free Monzo debit card, Monzo Perks and Monzo Max — you can move between plans at any time.
  • £3/month with no lock-in, but these are budgeting tools rather than cashback.

What to watch

No travel, phone or breakdown insurance and no lifestyle perks — those sit on Perks and Max.

  • Outside the EEA you still only get £200 of fee-free cash every 30 days.

Using it abroad

Connected accounts, virtual cards, custom categories, advanced roundups, two credit scores, Billsback draws, 3.00% AER Instant Access savings, and fee-free card spending abroad with unlimited UK and EEA cash withdrawals.

  • Outside the EEA the first £200 in a rolling 30 days is free, then 3% (Perks raises that to £600). ATM operators may still charge. Receiving euros or other foreign-currency inbound payments has a 1% conversion fee (capped £1,000).
  • Converts at the Mastercard exchange rate.

  • Custom spending categories.
  • Advanced roundups at 2x, 5x or 10x.
  • Auto-spreadsheet to a Google Sheet.
  • Credit insights for both TransUnion and Equifax updated weekly.
  • Instant Access savings and Cash ISA 3.00% AER (variable, paid monthly).
  • Saving Challenge at 5.00% AER.

Our Expert Opinion on Monzo Extra Debit Card

The Monzo Extra Debit Card is aimed at people who want budgeting tools rather than cashback - it pays no rewards on spending, so if points or cashback matter to you, look elsewhere. For £3 per month you get unlimited connected accounts, virtual cards linked to Pots, two weekly credit scores, and fee-free card spending abroad on the Mastercard rate, which we measure as practically nothing off the real exchange rate. The genuine catch is that outside the EEA, fee-free ATM withdrawals are capped at £200 every 30 days.
