Our Expert Opinion on First Direct Bonus Savings Account

Jonny PeaseCo-Founder, DepositScout

First Direct's Bonus Savings Account pays 3.35% only in months when you make no withdrawal, dropping to 1.05% the moment you touch the money - and that lower rate applies to your entire balance for that month, not just the excess. At 1.65% below the easy access market leader at 5.00%, this sits below the market average, so it is hard to recommend unless you are already a First Direct customer who rarely needs access. Tandem Bank's Instant Access Saver at 3.40% has no such withdrawal penalty.
